There was a SWCC club mining trip to North Wales over the weekend 20/21 April 2002. The Club visited the slate mines of Cwmorthin on the Saturday, accessing them by travelling on the Ffestiniog railway. The Gwynedd Cave and Pothole club website gives a reasonable amount of information on the slate mines. On the Sunday a trip was booked down Parys Copper Mine on Anglesey. The surface features here are very impressive and colourful, while the underground trip is well worth seeing, with the coloured acidic water, and the Bronze Age workings with stone hammers in situ, which were broken into by the Victorian miners. The Parys Underground group website is well worth a look.
