WORKING WEEK - May / June 2000

Maintaining the water supply          Married quarters upgrade          Mens' changing rooms and showers redecoration

The 2000 working week had as its main objective the upgrading of married quarters; this entailed the rebuilding of the kitchen, redecoration of the rear room and the replacement of the ceilings in the bedrooms. A number of other improvements and maintenance jobs were carried out, including the men's changing rooms and showers and the water supply

A very useful clearout .....
In addition to the main projects, there was a very useful clearout of rubbish and excess kitchenware into the working week skip. As usual, some things that went in came out again and disappeared off site in members' vehicles to be used elsewhere. Nobody however saw fit to remove from the skip the old oven from married quarters, the demise of which will be lamented by none of its many victims.

The weather stayed fair for the water tanks day (Monday) but by Wednesday lunchtime had set in cloudy and wet, and remained this way until the following Sunday afternoon before lifting. In Brecon and Swansea it was mostly fine.

Disaster nearly struck .....
The Soup Dragons provided excellent lunches and evening meals for everybody as usual and over the course of the week, the workers were treated to specialities including apple and apricot crumble, spotted dick, cottage pie, pork chops, trout, lemon meringue pie and the legendary Thursday night balti.

Disaster nearly struck on the Thursday night when the fourth barrel began to run out. Dave Edwards was despatched forthwith to The Copper Beech with a number of carry-outs to tide us over, and later that evening a fresh firkin of Directors was installed so that alcoholic refreshment could continue unabated into the weekend.

Brian Clipstone embarks on his 4th. (or is it 5th?) set of sandwiches at lunchtime

Presentation to the dragons .....
On the final (Friday) night of the official working week, we had the traditional dinner and presentation to the dragons of their favourite nourishment. There was a vote taken that any excess monies taken over the week should go towards funding a cooking item or tool that would not otherwise be bought.

On the Saturday night, the week ended with a small scale rescue from the Edwards Shortcut area in OFD of a victim suffering a dislocated knee.
