WORKING WEEK - May / June 2000

Mens' Changing Rooms and Showers

Maintaining the water supply          Married quarters upgrade

Painting the radiator

Communication breakdowns .....
The secondary project was the redecoration of the mens' changing rooms and showers. The ceilings and walls were jet cleaned and the more recalcitrant algae then removed with scrubbing brushes. Due to yet another of the communication breakdowns for which the working week is famous, the ceiling was painted grey instead of white.

Unlike married, there was no choice of colours for the walls which were painted in the ubiquitous SWCC magnolia. Revenge on the cottage warden was achieved by painting the woodwork blue and the radiator orange; the choice (though she denies it) of Les Davies who together with AJ did a lot of the work in this area.

A painting assault .....
As the end of the week approached, it became clear that insufficient progress had been made and time was made up with a painting assault over the afternoon and late evening, courtesy of 2 x Davies, 2 x Richardsons, Graham Christian, Marijke Teeuwissen, Andrew Dobson and Chris Grimmett.

By the time work finished that evening, the shelves had gone a lurid green colour, the blue woodwork completed and the kit washing area painted a grey to match the ceiling. The walls received yet another coat of magnolia in an attempt to cover up the stains of years and also to stop them from disintegrating further.

Men's changing room

A fine view of male members .....
The President did his bit by refurbishing the window in the men's shower room and removing the secondary double glazing (more easily recognisable as the algae covered, slug ridden bit of torn plastic sheeting stuck to the window). When the glass has been cleaned up a little more, it will be possible for cavers returning from Top Entrance to have a fine view of male members in the showers. Thank you Peter.

That evening, even before the paint had all dried, there was a rescue callout and the changing rooms had to be used. Several club members will now have blue cheeks as a result.
