The pre-Working Week Working Week 2007Now these guys are KEEN !!Report and pictures by Chris Grimmett -The Easter break at the cottages saw the first phase of work that had to take place in preparation for the main Working Week at the end of May. Top Tackle was emptied out, prior to it being gutted. A fine Club tradition came to an end with the forced eviction from the Fornicatorium of its last pair of occupants. The contents of the room were expunged, and the debris of many a fine performance removed. A respected SWCC matriarch who officiated over these proceedings was heard to remark that she was pleased to see there were so many responsible people in the Club. Top Tackle or the 'Old Tackle Room' as it might now be called will have its floor removed and replaced during the Working Week. When its ceiling was removed (see pic), the state of the supporting beams was such that they too had to come out and they will also be replaced.
The loft space above the Fornicatorium has been boarded over as storage space and the space above the Old Tackle Room adjacent similarly will be boarded out.
Expedition equipment and large tentage remains stored under the old Fornicatorium bed space; some of the less used and potentially altogether useless material from Top Tackle is now in the loft. Frequently used items including drills, chargers, ladders, ropes and tackle bags are stored in the old Fornicatorium; it is expected that this arrangement in its temporary form will remain in place for a while.
The original outside combination lock has been refitted to the door, with the same code as before. There is now no separate rope store, so please keep the curtains in the 'New Tackle Room' closed, to reduce the degredative effects of ultra-violet light. Work proceeded on Gents Showers. The majority of the tiles have been fitted, some of them grouted, and the plumbing mostly cut to size for final installation. For those many of you who seem not to know when the main Working Week takes place, the date is w/c Monday May 28th., although work will start over the preceding weekend 26th. and 27th.
