Some long overdue gardening .....
More well established members of the Club will remember the planting of a row of small leylandii trees at the top end of the cottages; probably some time in the 1970s.  These were designed as a windbreak and have served well.  Unfortunately, as is the way with these trees, they are now higher than the roof.  Hywel Jopling, on a busman's holiday, set to with ropes and a chainsaw to do a little pruning. Shortly afterwards, a small forest emitting noises similar to the dumper truck, was seen passing by on its way to Kershaw Terrace.

More demolition .....
The demolition team moved Northwards through the cottages and settled into removing the No.8 door frame.  This interfered nicely with the work that was being attempted on the floor of Gents toilets and as the Working Week proper got under way, the usual mess and confusion erupted.

In the end, it was left to the Arch-Trasher to demonstrate in his usual subtle way, the correct approach to removal of door parts.

Evacuation from Ladies .....
Word had spread that the demolition team had progressed as far as No.8, so the ladies decided that it was time to exit their bedroom, that being next on the trashing list. The dust had already started to fly as personal belongings and bedding were rapidly ferried out in the direction of Married.
There were to be longer term benefits as their bedroom was to gain a complete repaint and a cork tiled floor, but not before things were to get a lot worse.

Something constructive at last .....
Norman Flux was following the demolitioners at a discreet distance and took charge of installing new doors and frames to the bedrooms, starting in No.10.  The doors are to full fire specification, with closers and intumescent strips to prevent the ingress of smoke in the event of fire.  In addition, they will provide considerably improved sound insulation, a distinct benefit to those rooms at the tops of stairs.  Norman set up his headquarters in the Rescue garage.

Evacuation in Gents prevented .....
It has long been known that the floor in the Gents toilets is now so unstable that even the woodworm have moved into No.9.  It had been decided to refurbish this most horrible area of the cottages before Rescon in July, with a view to a three-year life before a major refit.  Graham Christian drew the short straw for the job, following the prowess he demonstrated the previous year in fitting the cork tiles to the floor of Ladies' Bathroom.  Ash Burrows was in attendance as Assistant Bog Restorer.

GBH
After the POUGs had painted all of the awkward bits of front No.10 in its new colour of Contemporary Blue, Jenny Johnson finished off the parts that smaller persons could not reach.  Alison Reynolds seemed to take exception and assaulted Jenny with a handy ladder.
Meanwhile, the Ladies' mattresses took a good beating.

..... and a fashion show
Toby attacked the Gents showers wall and floor with the pressure washer and made a considerable improvements to the look of the place.

Sarah Payne decided to join in with the painting effort and made a dramatic entrance in some unconventional working week attire.
