thursday - only 2 days to go
The air tool that was being used for removal of the pointing had broken on the previous day, but the Screwfix overnight ordering service worked just fine and we soon had a replacement.
The usual jobs continued and the weather took a distinct turn towards warm and sunny, distracting a few from their labours.

Painters' Progress
Ladies' Bedroom changed colour - actually Sunkissed Yellow - a Dragon-approved shade.  The outside wall of Ladies' Bathroom which was very loose and flaky, was stabilised using some old external grade paint in a vile pink/plum colour, subsequently overpainted with another colour compatible with the inhabitants - Invigorate.

Vince and Steve to the rescue
The painting in Ladies' Bedroom had been completed and Norman had finished making adjustments to the door, which now fitted.  Dave still needed to do more work on repairing the mess over the new lintel, and we had still to lay hardboard on the floor of Ladies Bedroom before it could be cork tiled.  Luckily, Vince and Steve appeared with an air driven nail gun and in a very short space of time had it all down. This set us up nicely for the next stage on the following day.

The DO cupboard rescue
Following the assault by emulsion paint on the Duty Officer's cupboard, Toddy began the painstaking task of removing the offending material and returning the woodwork to its original blue colour.  After many hours work, he was successful in removing nearly all of the Aquamarine.  Unfortunately, the necessary use of a scouring pad completely ruined the gloss finish and the whole lot will have to be painted again at a later date.

The great Building Stores clearout
Earlier in the week, the contents of Building Stores had been emptied into the dumper shed and No.0.  Sam and Phil sorted out the useful items from the shed and later that evening, Brian was outnumbered 10:1 as much of his beloved collection of useful things was discarded and rather less was returned upstairs.

Brian's rearguard action
Faced with the tragic loss of so much from Building Stores, Brian was unable to sleep and spent some time double checking the heap to make sure that nothing that we might possibly need had been set aside for disposal.  In this way, one or two suspect items found their way back upstairs under cover of darkness, but there's always next year .....

For the first time in many years we did not hire a skip as the costs are now considerable and thanks go to Vince who later took the rubbish down to the local tip.
