Out-takes from the week

Saturday

The Working Week high .....
As work was required to repair the No.10 chimney, scaffolding was erected on that cottage during the preceding week.  The main delivery of materials arrived on the Thursday and the Working Week organisers also turned up to prepare things for everybody else.

Clockwork cavers to the rescue .....
In order to make the chimney job rather easier, a mechanical device was needed to hoist blocks, cement and other materials onto the roof.  What better then than the tried and trusted digging winch, seen here being tested by Graham Christian?  For safety, the scaffolding and winching area was taped off and declared a hard hat zone when work was going on.

The Working Week low .....
The work in the Old Tackle Room required resiting of the cold water rising main to the roof tanks.  The old pipework was found to be embedded under the Ladies Showers floor in a thick layer of Galpinite.  Graham Christian spent some time with a breaker exposing the old pipework which subsequently turned out to involve at least 3 different sizes (no surprise there).

Where there's smoke .....
As Brian Clipstone together with Andy Dobson uncovered the slates on the No.10 roof, they discovered the extent to which the renowned chimney fire of years ago had damaged the roof timbers.   It became clear that these would have to be replaced as part of the scheduled repairs.

Tackling the Old Tackle Room .....
Work started on one of main jobs for the week - replacing the ceiling and floor in the Old Tackle Room.  Sam Moore and Allan Richardson installed the new joist hangers and got under way with screwing down the ceiling boards.  These will provide increased loft storage in cottage No.3.
