Out-takes from the week

Monday

Water nowhere and everywhere .....
When the incoming water connection was finally exposed, it was found to be an obsolete size.  After some short delays with the water shut off, Graham Christian devised a jury rig to keep the supply going.  This provided an interestingly artistic pipework layout in Ladies Showers.

Action front .....
The Amatts now moved into the Old Tackle Room (along with everyone else it seemed) and while Simon sorted out rendering the holes in the walls, Andy taped up the plasterboards.  Milo managed to fit himself in there as well, adding to the general level of confusion.

..... and action rear
Everyone who was not trying to work in the Old Tackle Room was in the No.3 Bunk Room (Old Locker Room as was).   Allan Richardson fitted plasterboard to the battening erected by Brian Clipstone the previous day.  The pointing team finished off any remaining bits they had missed and Alison Reynolds started to emulsion the walls.  The roofing team carried out periodic raids for 2" x 1" wood as they needed it to support slates but hadn't ordered any.

Small walls ..... and big walls
A good number of stones in the front wall had come loose or been detached and a team set about mortaring these back into place.  Starting at the woodpile, Tom Thompson continued restoring the big wall down the left hand side of the garden to its former glory.  By the end of his stay on Tuesday, and with assistance from Thomas, Steph and Carol, he had completed about 30 metres.

Upstairs ..... downstairs
The roof team continued to make good the loft woodwork before starting on the chimney stack proper.
The hearth in the Long Common Room was stripped out completely as the old and broken fire back had to be completely replaced.

A flagging workforce .....
Over a period of several years, the front of the cottages has been fitted out with flagstones which were in plentiful supply.  Dave Edwards was responsible for a lot of the initial areas and Clark Friend for much of the later work.  Aided by Chris Amabalino and Dexter Sayle, Clark used most of the remaining flags to cover up some of the alleyway.  Nick Davies and Thomas Moore finished off the job and pointed in the gaps.

More aquatic fun and games .....
The revised water arrangements were not entirely satisfactory and another line was run into Married to keep the supply there going.

Fencing, stiling .....
Following on from last year, maintenance and repair of the Club's fences was brought up to date.

A stile into the Stump garden was also installed by Nick Davies and Thomas Moore.

..... and a well earned rest
With jobs having started as early as Friday and most having been working over the weekend, many people were feeling tired although it was only the Monday evening.  Somebody had seen fit to provide some casks of beer and it seemed churlish to refuse.
