Out-takes from the week

Wednesday

The chimney stacks up .....
The chimney began to take shape properly with a couple of courses of bricks now added.  The flue itself was extended upwards with 9" flue liners.  Needless to say, it rained again.

Relief from congestion .....
The No.10 front bunk room, one of the first to be constructed outside Married, has always suffered from a lack of storage space.  To relieve this, shelves designed by Allan Richardson and completed by Graham Christian, were installed over the stair well.  Graham later took up his duties again as winchman.

..... and relief from wind
There has been a problem with draughts blowing under the outside doors and making the cottages cold.  Draught exclusion strips were fitted by Mick Day to the undersides of the No.6 and No.8 outside doors to reduce this effect.

Traditional methods
Chris Pepper undertook the duty of cleaning out the vehicle pit and completing security arrangements to prevent its unauthorised use.  This entailed manufacturing some bits and pieces of metal using traditional techniques, albeit with untraditional oxy-acetylene.
