New caving videos

Andy and Antonia Freem have been beavering away and produced some more extraordinary caving videos in OFD and further afield. Its getting cold and wet out there - enjoy these in the warm. Then go and do the real thing!

Recent additions are Ogof Govan, Ladies-only trip, Mining in mid Wales and Dan yr Ogof Cascade Series. These and lots more are here.

Hidden Earth ~ from Claire & Lizzy, pic by Claire

This year's Hidden Earth conference was based in Burnley. There were presentations from expeds to places as diverse as Tresviso, Burma, Morocco, Iran, Montenegro, China, Vietnam, Slovenia, Austria, Mulu and Meghalaya, an excellent talk on the Three Counties System and round-ups from all UK caving areas (thanks for doing ours Brendan!)

We used Lizzy's dancing skills and Claire's chat-up lines to flog merchandise. Best sellers were the Faff Now mugs, surveys and pin badges and by the end of the weekend we had sales worth over £100. (more pictures here)

Thanks to Nicky Bayley, Bill Buxton, Martin & Krysia Groves, Pete Hobson, Duncan Hornby, Elsie Little, Harvey Lomas, Brendan Marris, Allan Richardson, Blanca Usuga, Phil Walker, Jo White, Liz and Matt Wire for providing photos or helping with the stand.

and a big hats off to Claire for pulling it all together!

Duty Officer - coordinator!

We are pleased to say that Elsie Little has agreed to be
Duty Officer Coordinator, Encourager, Tzarina & Chief Whip!

Please make her job as easy as possible by signing up on line or by emailing her. This role is vital to our Club, and we have been really struggling - so if you use the cottages a few times a year and haven't been DO for a while, expect a polite call!

OFD leader request

Five members of NFI Caving Club based in Derbyshire would like to do an OFD I to OFD II trip on 20th Oct.

They are experienced cavers but haven't caved in South Wales before so would prefer to do the trip with a leader. If you are available please contact
Chris Thoroughgood at nficavingclub@gmail.com

Provisionals' weekend 6/7th October - help needed

We are expecting this to be extra popular, and probably due to SWCC being on ITV Wales, Claire says her inbox is bulging with folk who want to give caving a try. We may get as many as 25 each day which is something like 6 parties, each needing two experienced cavers (whew!).

So it does mean however that we need more volunteer leaders, helmets and lamps to borrow. If you have already volunteered that's great, see you there, but if you haven't and can help please email Claire.

Caving in the Lot this summer ~ by Andrew Ward

Another Lot trip (for me on and off since 1995) our base was the farm house at Miers lots of room and storage space. Thomas (Germany) made it a multinational trip. Aim was fun and a look at a high level cave (for me) it has a sump worth checking out. Although it proved too wet to do anything (yes too wet, the entrance is in a river bed). We did dive the usual suspects and had a variety of visibility (crystal to 1M) see the video clip on the blog. The re-breather contingent had a good time as we survived the dives.

Note: the bears like water and at no time were at risk.
