Spelaeology* camps for kids and teens

Run by the Association Objectif Sciences International (an NGO) these camps in the Southern Alps in France have linited numbers of places for young cavers (and presumably their parents) for fun caving and scientific study. (Might be good for their French too!)

For 7 - 9 year olds  10 - 12 year olds  13 - 18 year olds  science-camps.com

Cave Radio Electronics Group Journal on-Line - from Mike Bedford

BCRA's CREG Journal is now available online for an annual subscription of just £4.00 so it's never been cheaper to keep up-to-date on technical issues concerning cavers. What's more, there's probably a lot more to interest you than you thought.

Topics regularly covered include lighting, photography, communication, cave detection and exploration, surveying, and computing. And in the main, articles are aimed at ordinary cavers with a down-to-earth interest in applying technology to caving. For example, recent articles have looked at continuous LED-based lighting for photography, Android smartphones in caving, 3D printing parts for your DIY projects, CCTV for rescue and exploration, and radio-location.

If you want to get a better feel for the sort of articles published in the CREG Journal, just head to http://bcra.org.uk/pub/cregj/ where you can see a contents list for the current and previous issues. You can also sign up for a year's subscription (normally four issues) here for either the new online access or to receive the paper edition in the post.

Austria caving team need more members - from Sophie Hentschel

We are small group of cavers from different clubs going on an expedition to Steinernes Meer in Austria in August and we are still looking for more people to join us.

Where: Steinernes Meer, Austria
Cave: Rote Pumpe system (more than 8km so far) plus a couple of smaller projects if time permits
When: 10 to 17 August 2013
Who: myself (ULSA, NPC, YUCPC), Andrew Hurlbatt (YUCPC), Thomas Hülsmann (German speleologist; my stepfather; been researching that area for most of his life) plus a couple of people from TSG (to be confirmed)
How: Andrew and I will fly to Munich with Lufthansa then Thomas drives us to the closest town. There is one car space left. Other team members can either fly to Munich, too, or fly to Salzburg, which is much closer.

Many thanks & kind regards, Sophie caversophie@yahoo.com

With thanks to Jem Rowland for the info.
