Cave Exploration in Colombia ~ Get your Ceilidh Tickets
Pant Mawr Trip ~ Run Marshalls Needed      25 Apr 2013   read on-line

Cave Exploration in Colombia - it's wide open!

Blanca Usuga has been working hard behind the scenes, and has made an important breakthrough with the National University of Colombia who are very interested in working with SWCC to explore new caves over the next few years. They have a list of un-explored caves that they want to work through.

Known caves in Colombia are big, pretty and impressive and there's huge potential. If you saw Blanca's slide show last year you will know what I mean!

Firstly, are we up to taking part in new cave exploration on a world wide scale? If we say yes, can we deliver? This has the potential to be the start of a big new chapter for SWCC.

Secondly, they want to meet somebody this year at the end of July. This will need to be someone from SWCC who has experience of foreign caving expeditions and who can explain that we can organise, explore and survey caves. They will pay for the hotel.
[The SWCC Bursary Scheme may be able to help with some of the travel costs].

If you are that person and you can spare 3 or 4 days at the end of July, then get in touch with Gary Vaughan asap.

Marshalls needed for Marie Curie Brecon Beacons Run - from Ali Garman SMWCRT

We still need more volunteers to help be marshals for the Marie Curie Whole Hog Brecon Beacons 2013 Adventure Race

It's less than 3 weeks until the Adventure race on 11th May. Reasons why you should consider volunteering :-

- This one day is likely to be the Rescue team's single biggest fund raising event of the year. It is particularly good because its raising money for cave rescue from outside of the caving community, but without having to shake a tin. We hope to raise £1,500, which in a year when we're buying a new LandRover, is greatly needed.

- Marie Curie is a great charity doing amazing work and you will also be helping them raise a significant sum to carry on that good work.

- You will be able to sit and drink hot chocolate whilst watching men, women and possibly children going through pain and misery.

- We will be representing the caving fraternity and hosting 100s of new visitors in our beautiful 'neck of the woods'.

- After the race, there is a hog roast and party being arranged by Marie Curie.

Marshals are required from 09:00 - 16:00 on Sat May 11th. If you are only able to help for part of the day or require help with child care, then I'm sure we'll be able to accommodate you. If you can help, please email Jopo ASAP on brian.jopling@btinternet.com

Thanks in advance for your support. Cheers Ali
