Provisionals'
Weekend - by PCW
Last month we
devoted another splendidly wet Wales weekend to Provisional Members.
Ably organised again by Claire and supported by willing leaders,
everyone had quite a riot by all accounts, in fact, click
through to read about it in their own words:
"We
survived our first caving trip!!!
The sense of achievement
was palpable in the car during our Sunday evening drive back to
Swansea. Laura and I, both total cave novices, couldnt believe
that wed spent the day deep underground, traversing rocks,
squeezing into narrow passages and wading through gushing streams.
How to describe our sense of wonderment at such a surreal, overwhelming
experience? . . .

Fridges
needed - from Allan Richardson
Yes!
Our kitchen fridges are geeting old and worn out! We need several.
Can you donate, buy, give, borrow one? They need to be "under-
counter, larder types" ie about 85cm high and with no freezer
compartment. Please contact
Allan if you have one or know of one.
Editor
Krysia needs your input - from
Krysia Groves
Dear SWCC members
-
The time has
come for me to reach out with my plea asking that you tell your
tales, explain your exploits and display your camera competencies.
Yes, I've started work on the Spring 2014 Journal and as always,
I need your help.
I have to admit a teeny twinge of disappointment with respect to
the last issue - NOT about the content I did receive (many thanks
once again to those ccontributors) but about that which I did not
- shame on those of you who are witholding entertaining articles
from our membership!! As a result I felt the Journal released a
few months ago was not just skinny, but anorexic in relation to
the number of "fat and juicy"articles I know are out there.
I feel it is my duty to make it up to you and I should like to promise
a full-bodied package of reading matter, arriving on your doorstep
in the Spring; but as you know, you have a large part to play in
this, and I can't do it without you.
So, to help get your creative and literary skills flowing here are
a few prompts that might generate some words worthy of publication:
- What caving adventure did you undertake in the summer?
- How much did you enjoy your first/last trip to....?
- How much progress (or not) has been made at the dig?
- What speleo science /technology can you share?
- How ingenious have you been?
- What politics or policy would you like to debate?
- What were your thoughts when you did the training or joined in
the rescue practice?
- Have you had any entertaining cave related mishaps from which
you have learned a lesson?
- What plans are being hatched for the future?
- What tales can you tell from the past?
[Tales from the long common room could be an entertaining feature,
those classic stories we love to hear of legend and epic proportions
printed for posterity, capturing a bit of SWCC history and humour
and passing them on to our newer members]
And talking of new members - Provisionals, you are not left out
- your contributions too, are very welcome!
I look forward to being inundated with articles,
Send them to me on editor@swcc.org.uk editor@swcc.org.uk
The
Wye Not Challenge
Many of you
will be aware that Martin Groves and Jules Carter are not happy
unless they are suffering. Not satisfied with exploring the bowels
of the grumbling Gorner Glacier, or should that be the grumbling
bowels of the Gorner Glacier, they have recently completed a remarkable
feat in our very own Wye Valley - for charity.
Read all about
it on Jules'
blog, and donate
here!
