Deuxième Accident de Spéléo - Fireworks - Recycling
Club Rope Storage - Subs 22 Sept 2014   read on-line

Hello folks - I hope you had a great summer, whether it was in mountain, coast or cave. If you did - count your blessings. T'was not so for everyone . . .

Deuxième Accident de Spéléo de la Semaine* - By PCW

Unless you have been living in space for the last couple of months, you will have heard of Jules Carter's escapades in the Aven de Hures, surviving a 40m fall, "un véritable miracle" and perhaps even Pete Hobson's random patella tendon snap in the Gouffre Malaval, both in the Tarn Gorge in the Massive Central, France on the same exped.

Jules has written up his adventure in his blog (inc gory pictures), while Pete's is covered here - in French. Our very own Dr Mandy was interviewed as well. Hats off to the French Cave Rescue and associated organisations.

Now please go research how you clip on at the top of a pitch and check how secure that is . .

* which roughly translated, means: "I say, bad luck or what?"

Fireworks Sat Nov 8th

Traditionally a brilliant way to dispel the deepening evening gloom is the SWCC fireworks party. The rules are simple - bring just one BIG ONE each! We will probably have food and refreshments available, watch this space - offers of help appreciated.

Recycling at the Club is going DIY - by PCW

You will be familiar I'm sure with the bottles and plastic recycling bins under the sink in the kitchen. You may not be aware that for many years it has been the Days that have been faithfully transporting the contents every week to the local recycle centre, and not the faeries, and not even Powys Council. We would like to thank Mick and Judy for their years of mostly unseen work and wish them well in their retirement in a couple of weeks.

Thinking that it shouldn't be hard to get the Powys Council to sort it out (after all, we produce tons and tons of beer and wine bottles!) we have been in touch with the denizens of County Hall. But they told us that they cannot collect or recyclables owing to us being "hard to reach".

So, from next month onwards you are likely to see notices asking you to take your recycling home with you. Thank you..

Rope Storage - from Piers Hallihan (Equipment)

Just a quick reminder, please would you chain your ropes after you've washed them and at least let them stop dripping before you put them back in to the store. Thanks Piers.

Subs - from Lel Davies (Membership)

Shortly we will be offering on-line payments for subs and BCA in addition to regular cheques. We hoped to have had this ready in early September, but expeditions and HSBC slowness have delayed things. We will be emailing all details out at the end of this month, thanks for being patient.
