Duty Officers - two nights for one day - by PCW

To help encourage everyone to contribute to this essential part of Club life, your Committee have decided to offer a little extra incentive for you to sign up - now if you do a day's DO you will be entitled to two nights free and if you do a whole weekend, you will get four nights free!

Two more initiatives include producing an easy-to-follow DO handbook so that those who are relatively new to the Club know what's involved and where everything is, plus a "mentor" scheme for those who'd like it.

Please do check your diaries and put your name down, you can either do that on-line or by emailing me or Sam Moore who can also give you more details.

Bob is Duty Officer on 29th/30th Nov and can deliver to Penwyllt then.

Andy and Antonia's 70th Anniversary video* - by Andy Freem

Dear Member,

In about 18 months time SWCC will have its 70th birthday!

This remarkable event will, no doubt, have a range of festivities and as part of these we hope to present a film of SWCC as it is in 2014 -16, in the context of the classic trip from OFD1 entrance to OFD3 Smiths Armoury.

There are many ways to do this and we hope to have members on film and/or soundtrack, both in and outside the cave, telling of key moments, travelling through iconic passages, showing the interests, skills and history that illustrate the relationship of SWCC to Ogof Ffynnon Ddu.

We would like photos of original discovery to be edited into video of current SWCC cavers in those locations. Where possible we would like to record an archive of key places and moments with first-hand accounts.

One approach could be to record the love/terror of parts of the cave (e.g the streamway / chokes / traverses) to form a soundtrack to accompany film.

We hope that as many members as possible will take part in whatever way they would like. Everyone will have a DVD/mp4 copy to keep as a life-long record, and it will of course be there for future SWCC generations to look back on.

If you are interested in being part of the film in any way please contact us at afreem@btinternet.com or antoniafreem@gmail.com or have a chat either of us at the club .

Thanks, Antonia and Andy Freem

* Any suggestion that Andy and Antonia have been together for 70 years is purely speculatory [Ed]
