Steve Tomalins
kit auction and activity day, Sat. 4th July
Auction of Steve
Tomalins kit at the GCRG Depot at Cinderford in the Forest
of Dean and activity day (caving, kayaking, mountain biking, SRT
practice around the area). Who is interested in going? There are
campsites around 4 miles away. Contact: meets_sec@swcc.org.uk
Prior to his
death in July 2014 Steve left instructions that all of his equipment
(Caving, Climbing, Walking, Mountain Biking, Kayaking etc ) were
to be passed to the Gloucestershire Cave Rescue Group (GCRG) to
be auctioned to raise funds for the group. Steve was a member of
GCRG for many years and took a very active role in the running of
the group over a very long period of time.
As you can imagine
from somebody who was involved in so many activities there are a
great many items to be sorted out. The services of a professional
Auctioneer have been secured for the event.
However, it
is not just going to be an auction and combined with the event it
is planned that a series of other events are to take place on that
day to celebrate all of the things that Steve Enjoyed undertaking
- A caving trip, a Mountain Bike Ride, Kayaking down the River Wye,
Walking and Geocaching, a Climbing Session, SRT Training.
These are planned
to last a few hours and for each party to be armed with a camera
and record the event and then return to the GCRG depot where all
of the photographs will be put together into a presentation to be
shown at the depot that day.
Following the
Auction a BBQ is planned and of course some beer to be consumed.
Another two of Steve's passions. At the present time it looks very
much like the meeting time would be 1000 hrs at the GCRG Depot with
the Auction planned for a start at 1500hrs.
Other stuff:
Also, people
have expressed interest in a North Wales activity weekend this summer
to include Bounce Below and possibly the ZipWire there and walking.
Email if interested in this trip. Contact: meets_sec@swcc.org.uk
