The Whit Birthday Party - from Sam Moore

The Whit Birthday Party

Just to remind everybody that the next big event is on the Whit Bank Holiday (Saturday 23rd May) and celebrates significant birthdays for:

Tess Lister, Diana Moss, Alison Reynolds, Phil Buckberry, Chris Grimmett, Sam Moore

Informally, we would also like to take the opportunity to remember with fondness those Club members who are no longer able to join in with these events.

The theme of the party will be ‘ABBA’ – Fancy Dress is optional but encouraged. We’ll be using the Marquee, as some insurance against the weather.

Pat Hall has kindly agreed to provide the sound system and you are all invited to bring along ‘suitable’ music (but, please God, not just Abba!).

Food will be provided on the house. We’re planning to provide a range of chillies, with bread and/or rice, plus gateaux and or cheesecake for pudding.

We promise that there will be more than enough beer, although you will have to pay for that, but no other drinks because experience has shown that attempting to cater for everyone’s tastes is more or less impossible. Sorry.

Everybody is welcome and we hope to see you all there.

Sam Moore, obo all of us.

Visiting Castleguard Canadians - from Martin Groves

A bunch of Canadians are visiting the club Tue-Thu Jun 16-18. Lots of them helped out with the Castleguard project so I an really keen to ensure they get the best out of their trip to the Club. However I am at work and can only cave with them in the evening.

Is anyone local around midweek and able to taken them on a good trip into OFD or somewhere?

Please let me know if you can help, thanks Martin

Annual North Wales Mines trip 13/14th June – from Allan Richardson

We are staying at the Mynydd Mountaineering Club hut near Trefriw as per last year, I have booked the whole hut for the Friday and Saturday nights.

With the agreement between the CCC and the NRW having been finalised, we can now go down the Parc Mine, this is one of the major mines of the area. There are a number of other mines in the area which can be visited with, or without SRT.

The hut is an excellent base for walking and climbing as it is at the foot of the Carneddau, there are also a number of Mountain Bike trails nearby. Staying in the hut or camping outside costs £9 per person per night.

To secure a place, please send a cheque to me, made payable to SWCC, for however many nights you plan to stay, it is possible to stay on the nights before and after the weekend.

Cheers Allan allanr@caving.demon.co.uk
