A new way to pay Hut Fees - from Paul Meredith

Your Committee have been looking at ways of minimising the work of the Duty Officer and also trying to improve the situation for the club on weekends when we do not have a DO.

In support of this aspiration we are changing the system for paying hut fees. We would ask all those staying or visiting the club to sign in as they do now and, where payment is due, to complete one of the pre-printed envelopes, insert cash or a cheque, and then drop it into the slot in the new black safe on the wall next to the signing-in book.

We're hoping that everyone will get used to doing this on arrival, then there will be less chasing around to be done on a Sunday.

The combination safe will be emptied on a regular basis to avoid large quantities of cash being left at the club.

We have been trialling this system informally over the past few months and it seems very successful. We will be running both systems in parallel for a few more months with a view to a complete change over after the AGM weekend.

If you have any difficulties, or suggestions for further improvements to the new system then please get in touch with any of the Committee members.

Many thanks to Andy Freem for the original idea and for driving this piece of work to conclusion.

OFD 1 Mugs

Do you want to be reminded of Ogof Ffynnon Ddu every time you have a cup of tea? Well now you can. Andy Freem has arranged for a mini version of the new OFD1 survey to be printed under glaze on a very fine mug design. We have some of these available at the Club, first come first served, at the following prices: £14 medium, £16 large, £17 extra large. (tea-spillage may occur if used underground)

Ideas for modernising SWCC website - from PCW

I'm canvassing feedback from you, dear reader, as to what to do to improve our SWCC website. The background technology is rather long in the tooth now, and I'm aware that certain functions (eg the Calendar, members log-in) could be a lot slicker by today's standards, including better serving the tablet and smartphone market.*

What would you like to see new or different?

- Please send links to other sites that show what you mean.

What works really well / what doesn't work so well?

- If you are a new or provisional member, how well does the site meet your needs?

- If you are an established member, how could it be improved to be more useful to you?

- Imagine if you were not a caver, but had certain stirrings and wanted to know more, does the website currently cut it?

I am looking for suggestions in two distinct categories: technological improvements and also content / structure improvements. So please, let me have it!

There's a shed-load of work to do, so it won't be quick but we are making a start.

Thanks Peter email PCW

* With many thanks to Toddy, Will and Jenny who were designers and web-masters before me, and Piers who is offering to help with new coding.
