Welcome/Croeso to the South Wales Caving Club!

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) STATUS  - HQ Fully Open

Updated Wednesday 1st September 2021

As a result of the Welsh Government relaxation in covid regulations, the HQ is now fully opened up as internal accommodation for members and visiting cavers.

SWCC would like to flag up that whilst we are overjoyed to be able to restore a level of ‘new normal’ to the Headquarters at Penwyllt, as you are probably aware, the UK remains in a state of uncertainty as to what the future may bring. Our policy with regards welcoming members and visitors is absolutely shaped by the legal restrictions which are in place at the time. Visitors to the HQ should attempt to keep abreast of how things are developing in the news and check the website here immediately before visiting. Whilst we hope for the best we must be prepared for the worst. SWCC Committee remains optimistic and forward looking, and fully intends to strive to organise the very best events that can be held under whatever circumstances prevail in the future.

The risk assessments for the use of the HQ have been carried out and can be found here.

SWCC is fully aware that as a club, we still need to be taking 'reasonable measures', such as asking members to observe social distancing and to wear face masks where appropriate.  Our guidelines on using the HQ reflect this. SWCC is absolutely committed to complying with the law as a club, but is compelled to point out  that it is dependent upon the goodwill of its members when it comes to the matter of exercising compliance on an individual level. The conduct of members and visitors around the HQ is very much in the hands of those visiting the HQ and the personal ethics of those visitors is a matter outside of the control of SWCC. The advice that SWCC would give to people considering whether or not to attend the HQ would be to take into account the issue of individuality of cavers before deciding whether or not to come.

The changing rooms and showers remain open for use by day cavers, whether members or non-members. A goodwill fee of £1 would be gratefully received in the cash box mounted on the corridor wall.

SWCC have put together a COVID-19 Strategy for using the HQ. Please read through this and the new Interim Guidance and Procedures for accessing OFD before visiting the HQ, both of which can be found on our COVID-19 page.

Please check our COVID-19 page before travelling to the HQ for the latest information and access arrangements.

Thank you,

SWCC

SWCC is an active caving club based in Penwyllt, near Abercraf, fifteen miles North of Swansea, South Wales. We have around 300 members from all around the UK as well as overseas. Our primary focus is caving in South Wales but the club has frequent trips to other UK caving regions as well as expeditions worldwide.

South Wales is one of the finest caving regions in the UK, directly below our headquarters lies Ogof Ffynnon Ddu and across the valley is Dan-yr-Ogof, two very extensive cave systems, with many others within easy reach. It is also a great area for walking and cycling, bordering on the Black Mountain and the Brecon Beacons.

If you need to access the old site it is still available though no longer updated - Link to old SWCC website
